Memorial Service This Weekend For Rochester Community Leader
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A memorial service will be held this weekend for a well-known retired Rochester businessman and respected community leader.
Wayne Stillman passed away last week at age 86. According to his obituary published by Macken Funeral Home, Stillman was born in Rochester on Christmas Eve in 1937 and graduated from Rochester Central High School in 1955.
He owned and operated Stillman Office Machines along 6th Street Southwest for many years and was heavily involved in honoring local military veterans. Stillman helped lead the effort to raise funds for the construction and future maintenance of the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial in Rochester, which was dedicated in 2000 and quickly became one of the community's most cherished landmarks.
Following the completion of the memorial, Stillman remained very active in honoring military veterans. Among other things, he organized the annual Veterans Day program in Rochester and launched the Wreaths Across America chapter in southeastern Minnesota.
The memorial service honoring Stillman and his many accomplishments and contributions will take place Sunday afternoon beginning at 1 PM at Zumbro Lutheran Church, which is located just north of the Soldiers Field Veterans Memorial. A visitation will be held at the church beginning an hour before the service.
A reception and lunch will follow the memorial service. It is scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM at the Rochester VFW on 43rd Street Northwest.
