Winona, MN (KROC-AM News) - A man was critically wounded in a shooting early this morning near Winona State University.

A news release issued by the Winona Police Department indicates officers responded to reports of gunfire at an apartment building in the 300 block of West 10th Street just after 4:20 AM.

When they arrived at the scene, the officers discovered a man suffering from a single gunshot wound. The statement says he was transported to a hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Winona police reported that a second man, who was at the crime scene, was taken into custody for questioning.

The news release says Winona police are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting with investigators interviewing possible witnesses and collecting evidence. At this time, Winona authorities believe it was an isolated incident and there is no threat to the general public.
