Harmony, MN (KROC-AM News)- A southeast Minnesota man is in custody after law enforcement found a young man dead in the middle of a Fillmore County road.

That’s according to Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge. He says Fillmore County dispatch received a call of a person lying in the road around 12:15 Sunday morning. 

The call came from County Rd. 30 just east of Granger, which is about 10 miles southwest of Harmony on the Minnesota-Iowa border.

Young Iowa Man Killed After Being Struck by Vehicle in Fillmore County, Driver Arrested

DeGeorge says responding deputies found the man and pronounced him dead. He’s been identified as 23-year-old Cale Jackson of Cresco, Iowa

The preliminary investigation indicates that Jackson was struck by a vehicle on the roadway, according to DeGorge. He says the deadly incident is under investigation.

The driver, who remained at the scene, has been identified as 50-year-old Brian Nelson of Harmony. DeGeorge says Nelson was arrested on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and DWI.

Investigators obtained a sample of Nelson’s blood and sent it to the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for further testing, according to DeGeorge. 

Nelson is being held in the Fillmore County Jail. His first court appearance has not yet been scheduled.
