Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- Motorists dealing with construction-related slowdowns on Rochester’s so-called beltline will need to wait a little longer for the orange barrels and cones to disappear.

It’s one of many projects that have created a busy summer of road work in Rochester. Crews have been working on roads to accommodate Mayo Clinic’s expansion.

2nd St. Southwest has been closed in downtown Rochester in both directions for Link Bus Rapid Transit construction. A second portion of the road is set to close near St. Mary’s Hospital on Monday for the project.

A roundabout project requiring a detour got started earlier this month near Olmsted Medical Center in southeast Rochester.

Crews are also continuing work on adding a new roundabout north of Rochester.

Hwy. 14 Resurfacing Project in Rochester Now Set to End Mid-August

Resurfacing Hwy. 14 east through southern Rochester got underway last month. The busy four-lane highway has been down to a single lane in each direction from Hwy. 52 to Marion Rd. Southeast since May.

At the start of the repaving work, which got underway on July 7, The Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) originally indicated the project would be completed by August 4.

MnDOT Public Engagement Coordinator for the agency’s Rochester Office Cindy Morgan said storms and heavy rain throughout the month of July have pushed back the completion date to the middle of August.

The completion of the resurfacing project will not spell the end of roadwork on Rochester’s beltline.

In 2027 crews will begin to reconstruct the highway’s intersection with South Broadway Ave.
