Elderly Minnesota Woman Killed in Wrong Way Crash
Belle Plaine, MN (KROC-AM News) - An elderly Minnesota woman was fatally injured Monday afternoon after she drove in the wrong direction on a major state highway.
The State Patrol says the deadly incident was reported around 12:50 PM on Highway 169 in Scott County. The victim was driving an SUV south in the northbound lanes of the highway when her vehicle collided head-on with a pickup truck. The crash occurred in the vicinity of where the highway splits into a divided four-lane highway just south of Belle Plaine.
The victim was identified as 93-year-old Irene Castor of Belle Plaine. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The other driver was identified as 38-year-old Douglas Alexander Johnson of Elk River. The State Patrol says he was wearing a seatbelt and was not injured.
The State Patrol report on the crash also indicates alcohol was not involved.
The Scott County Sheriff's Office and Belle Plaine Police Department assisted the State Patrol in responding to the fatal crash.
