Olmsted County Court records indicate 29-year-old Najib Mahamud Ahmed had pled guilty to a felony assault charge and a pair of misdemeanor assault charges in October of 2019. He’s accused of failing to appear at a January 2020 sentencing hearing and for not cooperating with a pre sentence investigation.

He was then placed on warrant status for over three years until he was arrested for allegedly fleeing Rochester Police near Elton Hills Dr. and North Broadway Ave. in the early morning hours of April 3 of this year. Ahmed was convicted of a felony charge of failing to appear for the assault convictions on Wednesday.

A judge ordered him to serve a 20-month prison sentence for the failure to appear conviction, a 29-month prison term for the felony and misdemeanor assault convictions and a 90-day jail sentence for the misdemeanor assault. He was also convicted for fleeing an officer on foot for his April arrest and sentenced to a 30-day jail term.

The sentencing order will allow Ahmed to serve the sentences concurrently. The criminal complaint in the case that resulted in the two assault convictions accuses Ahmed of being one of three men who attacked a woman defending her son over a dispute regarding money in September of 2018.

The other misdemeanor assault conviction stems from an incident in which Ahmed is accused of punching an employee at a southeast Rochester business in the head in October of 2019. Court records indicate Ahmed was also convicted of felony assault in 2012 and 2017, felony second-degree burglary in 2013, felony drug possession in 2014 and misdemeanor assault in 2018.
