Child’s Death Followed by Police Shooting in Brooklyn Park
Brooklyn Park, MN (KROC-AM News) - Agents from the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension were dispatched Sunday to Brooklyn Park to investigate an officer involved shooting related to the police response to a report of a baby not breathing.
The Brooklyn Park Police Department has issued a statement indicating the shooting occurred after officers were sent to a residence in the 8700 block of Queens Gardens North around 4 AM Sunday and located a seven month old child, who was described as being in critical condition. The news release says the child was rushed to a nearby hospital, but later died.
Brooklyn Park officers were at the scene investigating the circumstances surrounding the child's death when they encountered a man with a gun. The statement says one officer fired his gun and wounded the armed man.
The officers at the scene immediately began providing emergency medical care until the man could be transported to a hospital for treatment. Brooklyn Park police say he is expected to survive.
They also say that a firearm was recovered at the scene and the entire incident was captured on body camera video.
