Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A list of charges have been filed against a Rochester man, including assaulting a police officer, in connection with a violent incident earlier this summer.

A criminal complaint filed this week in Olmsted County Court says Rochester Police responded to reports of disorderly conduct in northwest Rochester on the afternoon of June 22. The reports indicated a man was punching cars and swinging a guitar case at her vehicle.

The court document describes how the first officer arrived at the scene and found 50-year-old Layne Brett Busselman being held down by a group of citizens. The officer indicated Busselman was "sweating profusely and screaming that he was going to kill everyone."

The charges allege that Busselman assaulted the officer when he attempted to place him under arrest for assaultive and disorderly behavior. According to the criminal complaint, Busselman resisted by rolling over onto his back and grabbing the officer's arm, causing significant bruising.

The complaint says the officer eventually subdued Busselman and was able to speak with witnesses. A woman told the officer that Busselman was walking in traffic and then jumped on the hood of her car and punched the windshield before throwing a guitar case at the vehicle.

Another victim told the officer that Busselman had punched him in the face and tackled him to the ground in an attack that left him with scratches and red marks on his face. The criminal complaint says a second man also reported being punched in the face, while another victim stated that Busselman kicked his vehicle and caused a large dent in the passenger door.

Busselman has been charged with felony fourth-degree assault involving a police officer, first-degree damage to property, and two counts of misdemeanor assault.

Court records indicate a summons has been sent to Busselman ordering him to appear in court for arraignment on the charges in early October.
