Kasson Woman Convicted in Buggy Crash Now Facing Check Theft Charge

Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News)- The Kasson woman who was convicted in a hit-and-run crash involving an Amish buggy in Fillmore County is now charged in a Rochester felony check theft case.

The new criminal complaint was filed in Olmsted County Court on the same day as her guilty plea. Rochester police were made aware of the alleged check theft in late September, the court document says. 

33-year-old Brittany Edgar pleaded guilty in Fillmore County to felony criminal vehicular operation on Tuesday. She was charged after allegedly slamming into the back of an Amish buggy on a rural road near Spring Valley on the night of February 16. 

Three children riding in the buggy suffered serious injuries. She’s scheduled to be sentenced in that case next month.

Officers responded to an undisclosed bank in Rochester on September 27 on the report of a woman, identified as Edgar, attempting to cash a check that was reported stolen.

The employees of the bank told police the holder of the account connected to the check informed the bank that his checks had been stolen. 

The check, which was originally made out to American Family Insurance for $747.00, had been altered, the complaint says. 

Edgar also had a person impersonating the account owner during phone calls with bank employees, the court document says. 

Edgar is charged with one count of felony stolen checks. She’s due to make her first court appearance in January.
