Another SPECTACULAR Northern Lights Display is Possible Tonight
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - A powerful solar flare produced a extraordinary lightshow across the upper Midwest Friday night and early Saturday as the Northern Lights were easily visible even in areas with bright city lights.
If you missed it, a repeat performance is forecast throughout Minnesota tonight, weather permitting.
The video below was recorded in southeast Rochester at approximately 3:30 AM (credit: Jude Brownell).
A quick scroll through social media shows that quite a few Rochester area residents stayed up late to appreciate the spectacular display by mother nature.
Apparently, some of the law enforcement officers working to protect us also have some pretty good photography skills.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration says the amazing light show are due the first G$ (Severe) geomagnetic storm to hit Earth since 2005. Besides the natural fireworks in the night sky, the power waves of radiation can also disrupt communications systems and under protected electrical generation and distribution systems.
