Extended Weather Outlook Predicts Ultra-Snowy Winter For Minnesota
Winter is coming whether we like it or not. We had an incredibly mild winter in Minnesota and Wisconsin last season so it's basically science that this one will be brutal.
Many different agencies have released their winter outlooks and looking at the headlines will send a shiver down your spine. Ha!
The latest is NOAA's Climate Prediction Center, which released their outlook for the prime winter months in the Northland. This is December 2024 through February 2025. Gulp.
Winter Temperature Outlook
Okay, this really isn't too bad. According to NOAA's forecast, Minnesota and Wisconsin have an equal chance of having either below average or above average temperatures.

However, parts of northwestern Minnesota have a slightly higher chance of some cold arctic air. Sorry! For once, the Northland is spared. I can't be mad about that!
What About Snow?
This is where things get a little hairy. NOAA's outlook shows most of Minnesota and all of Wisconsin having high chances for above average precipitation. Yikes!

In the Northland, those chances are about forty to fifty percent. While it is not a sure thing that we will see these higher totals, it does kick any chances for another mild winter right out the door!
We are all used to this by now so we will be okay at the end of the day. As long as there are no mentions of a polar vortex or arctic blast, I am fine with it!
