According to Minneapolis Police, McShane got to the scene just after 1 p.m. on August 12 and gathered details on the suspect. He then spotted 28-year-old Tazrick Tobias Nall in an alley between Bryant Ave. S and Colfax Ave. S, matching the description given.

When McShane tried to detain Nall, police say Nall refused to cooperate and fought back. The two ended up on the ground during the struggle. McShane used his Taser, but it didn’t stop Nall, who then allegedly tried to pull McShane’s gun from its holster and managed to fire it.

Backup officers, two from the Minneapolis Police Department and two more from Park Police, arrived and were able to get Nall under control.

McShane was taken to the hospital for treatment and released later the same day. Nall was also checked out at the hospital before being booked into the Hennepin County Jail.

Prosecutors have charged Nall with second-degree assault with a dangerous weapon and disarming a peace officer.

The investigation into the original sexual assault report is still ongoing. Because McShane’s gun was fired during the incident, the Minneapolis Police Department is handling the independent investigation.
