St. Peter, MN (KROC-AM News) - For the second time this month, police in St. Peter were called on this weekend to track down an offender after an escape from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program at the St. Peter State Security Hospital.

A news release says the St. Peter Police Department was notified around 5:20 PM on Saturday about an escape from the program. A search was immediately launched for 53-year-old Steven Lauren Edwards.

Edwards was described as white, 5' 6", about 265 pounds, with a bald head, white facial hair trimmed into a goatee, and blue eyes. When he was last seen on the campus of the Saint Peter Regional Treatment Center, he was wearing a black sweatshirt, black pants, and black tennis shoes.

The St. Peter can police Department sent out an update at noon on Sunday indicating that Edwards was located in Missouri and was taken into custody.

Minnesota Court records show Edwards has a long criminal history dating back to 1990 that includes multiple felony convictions for a variety of crimes including first and second-degree criminal sexual conduct. He was civilly committed as a sexually dangerous person in 2011.

On May 8, another offender escaped from the Minnesota Sex Offender Program in St. Peter. Officials reported that 45-year-old Beau Jacob Zimmer somehow managed to get away on a bicycle while armed on with a kitchen knife.

He was on the loose for approximately 5 1/2 hours before a citizen spotting him walking on a rural road west of St. Peter and he was taken into custody.
