Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Charges have been filed against a former employee of the Somerby Golf Club involving the theft of about a half-million dollars.

Olmsted County Sheriff’s Captain Scott Behrns says 53-year-old Gordon Perkins is scheduled to make his first court appearance in March on theft and other charges stemming from an investigation that began last year after the general manager of the golf club in Byron found there had been a significant amount of unauthorized charges on Somerby’s credit card accounts. He then confronted and fired Perkins. The criminal complaint states Perkins apologized and provided Somerby with a check written out for $75,000, which bounced.

The investigation conducted by the Sheriff’s Office documented thefts from Somerby accounts beginning in 2012 and running through last year that totaled about $500,000 and includes unauthorized credit card charges and tens of thousands of dollars worth of fraudulent claims for reimbursement from the business’ petty cash account. The charges say the money was used for home repairs, living expenses, medical bills, and vacations.

Perkins, who has an Austin address, was hired as the controller of the golf course’s finances in late 2011.
