Valley Grove annual Country Social, Sunday, September 14, 1-4 PM
9999 155th Street E, Nerstrand, MN 55053

The Valley Grove Preservation Society invites young and old to come to Valley Grove on September 14, 2024 between 1 and 4 PM to enjoy an autumn Sunday afternoon in the country. Visitors will be able to admire the newly restored steeple on the 1894 wooden church. They can savor cookies, coffee and lemonade in the 1862 stone church that faces the wooden church. They can marvel at the fall colors seen across the valley at Nerstrand Big Woods State Park.

The Nordic Hutenanny group will play under the big bur oak trees from 1-2:30 PM. Historian Jeff Sauvé will tell stories of “Unbound Love at Valley Grove” at 1:30 and again at 3 PM. The book Muus v. Muus will be discussed at 2 PM by editor Kari Lie Dorer and translator Torild Homstad.

Two large draft horses will carry visitors in a wagon over the prairie and oak savanna that surround the churches and cemetery. A blacksmith will demonstrate his craft on the lawn. Old-time games and activities will be available to those who are young and young at heart.

Everyone is welcome to this free event. Valley Grove cards will be available for sale. An original Bettye Olson painting of the Valley Grove cemetery will be on display and awarded to a generous donor in a drawing during the event.
