Yep, you read that correctly.

The Mighty Ducks movie that made "The Flying V" and "quack, quack, quack!" famous, is helping a few arenas in SE Minnesota with grant money. Oh, let's not forget that intense battle against the Icelandic team either!

It seems that same determination used to beat the kids from Iceland has transferred toward helping local hockey arenas throughout the country.

According to KAAL, this grant was created in 1995. They explain, "The James Metzen Mighty Ducks Grant Program was set up to help provide equal ice time for developing girls hockey programs, as well as to improve existing arenas." The latter half of that agenda is what's planned for a few SE Minnesota arenas.

Out of 29 candidates, the Albert Lea Arena was chosen to receive a $71,000 grant, which will be used for improvements toward their heating and air system. KAAL reports, additionally, "Riverside Arena in Austin was awarded $60,000 and the Recreation Center in Rochester will receive $45,000. Both of these facilities will also be improving their air quality as well."

This is an awesome opportunity! Are you happy that some of our arenas received grant money? Will this improve youth hockey in the area?
