Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - It looks like the Kutzky House will soon fall to the wrecking ball.

The Rochester City Council recently denied a permit to demolish the old building but Mayor Brede vetoed the decision. Monday night the council failed to override the veto and unless something develops soon, demolition could begin next month. State law requires a permit be issued within a certain time period if there is no official action and the veto essentially vacated the council’s earlier decision to deny the request. It was a 4-3 vote and 5 are needed for a veto override.

By the same vote, the council failed to override another veto that shot down a plan to install equipment that would offer video recordings and live streaming of the council’s Committee of the Whole meetings.

Council members Hickey and Hruska joined President Staver in upholding the vetoes.
