On Friday morning the Blue Earth Police Department was searching for a stolen ATM and pick-up truck. Both were found empty later on 6 miles west of where the caper happened.

According to the Mankato Free Press, the suspect used a stolen truck to dislodge and haul away an ATM from a Blue Earth bank Friday. It all began at 4:12 a.m. when the suspect entered the ATM lobby at First Bank Blue Earth and unsuccessfully tried to use a pry bar and sledgehammer to remove the machine from its base.

When those efforts proved fruitless the suspect then backed a black Chevrolet truck up near the entrance and came back to the machine with a tow chain. The chain was attached to the vehicle to pull the machine loose before it was loaded onto the truck. The ATM, vehicle, and the suspect then left the scene heading south.

Authorities with the Faribault County Sheriff’s Office later found the truck south of town on 400th Avenue and County Road 4, six miles west of Frost. The vehicle was reportedly stolen from Hawkins Chevrolet in Fairmont.

Authorities were unsure as to how much cash was stolen from the ATM.

The suspect is described as having an athletic build. He wore a facemask, hat, and a light-colored shirt over a dark hooded sweatshirt and pants.
