Rochester, MN (KROC-AM New) -- Southern Minnesota is in for a wintry weekend with forecasters predicting bitter cold followed by accumulating snow.

The National Weather Service has issued a wind chill advisory for the southern third of the state through 9 a.m. Saturday because of a forecast that predicts the temperature could slide into the teens below zero and wind chill readings in the 25 to 30 below range. The mercury is only expected to make it into the single digits above zero in the Rochester area Saturday afternoon.

A developing storm system is expected to arrive in the region Saturday night and could drop 2 to 5 inches of snow on southeastern Minnesota.

A winter storm watch been posted in west-central Minnesota, where forecasters say a half foot of snow and blizzard conditions are possible.
