Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) -  The Rochester City Council is being asked to become more involved in the local art community.

The Greater Rochester Arts and Cultural Trust is scheduled to present a consultant’s report during the council’s committee meeting Monday.

The presentation will center on what’s called the Rochester Public Art Master Plan. It will include a recommendation for the formation of a task force to “lay the groundwork for establishing Public Art Rochester as an ongoing program.”

One area the task force would consider is who takes the lead in running the new public art entity. The consultant recommended the city lead the new program, which could mean an annual budget of $500,000-$700,000 for staff and other costs. The Trust said city leaders indicated support for a different model that would have a non-profit organization oversee the public art program and work with the city and other entities.

The consultant’s report was put together over an 18 month period that included interviews and dialogue with residents and various public and private entities.
