Rochester Area Highway Construction Season Begins Next Week
The highway construction season in southeastern Minnesota is getting off to an early start this year.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation will officially "kick-off" the highway construction season with an event in St. Paul later this month, but spokesman Mike Dougherty (aka MNDOT Mike) says the first project in the Rochester area will begin on Monday. That's when lane restrictions will go into effect on Highway 52 in Zumbrota, where crews will be replacing the Highway 58 overpass bridge this summer. The $6 million project is scheduled to be completed in October, when the existing bridge is removed and traffic will have to be detoured off Highway 52 on one of the weekends.
The Highway 58 bridge project is only one of several that will slow traffic between Rochester and the Twin Cities this summer. MNDOT is preparing to begin a resurfacing of the northbound lanes between Rochester and Cannon Falls next month, and bridge replacement projects are scheduled in Cannon Falls and at the County Road 42 interchange near Rosemount this summer. Stay tuned, more information on those projects will be coming soon.
