Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Rochester Sports, formally known as the Rochester Amateur Sports Commission, has hired a new executive director. A press release indicates Jay Fanta has been an employee of the organization for six years and will take over the leadership position when current Executive Director Ed Hruska steps down at the end of the year.

“In the past six years, Jay has demonstrated and displayed his passion for Rochester Sports by leading our sales and growth of new events in the community. He is a team player that will bring communication skills, experience and relationships to the role of Executive Director. Jay’s knowledge and experience will help our organization build on the legacy of success that has been developed over the past 15 years,” explained board president Chris Terry.

Hruska, who has served as the Executive Director of the organization since 2003, plans to transition into a part-time position that will focus on sport facility development. The mission of Rochester Sport is to attract major sporting events to the city and deliver customers to the city's hotels, restaurants, and retailers. Last year, Rochester hosted a record 102 sporting events that carried in an estimated economic impact of almost $25 million.
