Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - Despite the slick travel conditions, motorists who frequently travel on South Broadway in Rochester have something to celebrate.

The Rochester Public Works Department says the new traffic signal at the intersection of Broadway and 3rd Avenue Southeast is now operational.

The project has been disrupting traffic since it began in the late summer. The signal system, which was part of a project to improve the intersection, includes a new at grade controlled crosswalk for pedestrians, transit stops and sidewalks connected to the surrounding neighborhoods.

Officials say it will also reduce traffic conflicts and delays at the nearby Broadway and 20th Street intersection, where improvements are planned later this year. That project will include creating dedicated left turn lanes and other upgrades.
