Rammstein guitarist Richard Kruspe thinks the band’s long-awaited seventh album could be their last. They revealed in March that work was underway on the follow-up to 2009’s Liebe Ist für Alle Da, and they’d amassed more than 30 songs to work on, of which six were “very good.”

In May Kruspe told Metal Hammer, “We’re working on the vocals, then we might consider another producer. There’s all those question marks that we haven’t answered yet.” Bandmate Paul Landers added that they were aiming to make use of “unusual methods” in the writing and production process, and said, “It might be that when Grandmother hears the album, she thinks it’s the same as the other ones. But for us, we really want it to be another milestone.”

In a more recent interview, recorded at the Resurrection Fest in Spain (which you can watch above), Kruspe said, “I just feel like, for some reason, that it’s going to be the last record we do. That’s a feeling. I can be wrong – but just at the moment, I feel like this is maybe the last shot we have. I want to give 200 percent and make it as good as it can be. When I listen to the stuff, there’s so much potential.”

He admitted that studio life hadn’t always been easy for the band. “I was very skeptical to go back into the studio. Last time we almost broke up making a record,” he said. “It’s always very, very stressful and painful. We came up with an agreement to only record maybe five songs. We started two years ago – and just playing with the guys was very natural. I had a lot of fun. Since then we’ve created ideas. We’ve managed to move back to the beginning of the world of Rammstein – very emotional and enthusiastic. It feels like a circle, almost.”

Asked about the band’s relatively few live appearances this year, he said, “We toured last year, all the festivals. There were three people in the band that didn’t want to tour, and three people in the band that wanted to tour, so we made a compromise. We only played, I think, 25 shows a year. Rammstein is a democracy – everyone has a vote.”
