Oronoco, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Olmsted County deputy who was sent to check a house fire early Monday ended up helping a woman to safety.

The fire call was made around 1:30 a.m. from a residence at 1611 White Bridge Road NE, about five miles east of Oronoco.

Olmsted County Sheriff's Office Sgt. James Schueller arrived to find the owner using a garden hose to put out what appeared to be a chimney fire. The homeowner, Judd Hoeft, said his mother was still inside. Schueller yelled but could not see the woman. He then walked through the smoky house, found her and helped her get outside. She did not require medical attention.

No word yet on the cause of the fire or extent of damage.
