Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Department is reporting the arrests of four people in connection with an assault on a deputy late Wednesday night.

The deputy was attempting to arrest 38-year-old Fernando Garcia-Davila after the man fled during a traffic stop in southeast Rochester when he was accosted by a man holding a baby and three females. At one point, the deputy found himself in a choke hold and felt as if he was going to pass out, but was released when he yelled out “I give up, you are free to go.” He still managed to apprehend Garcia-Davila with the help of the Rochester Police Officers who arrived at the scene just after the deputy’s attackers left.

Thursday evening, the Sheriff’s Department issued a statement saying 30-year-old Angel Garcia-Davila, 59-year-old Maria Del Socorro Davila-Garcia, and 19-year-old Gloria Selena Garcia Garza were being held in the Olmsted County Jail on felony charges stemming from the assault on the law officer.

A 15-year-old girl was also arrested and is being held at the Many Rivers Juvenile Detention Center. Additional information concerning the investigation is expected to be released Friday morning.

An Olmsted County deputy was attacked Wednedsay night while trying to apprehend a criminal suspect in a southeast Rochester neighborhood.

The incident began as a traffic stop near the intersection of 6th Avenue and 13th Street SE around 11:30 p.m. The driver stopped and then took off on foot, running between some homes. The deputy went after him and moments later was knocked to the ground by a man who was holding a baby.

The deputy got up and eventually caught the suspect, who began resisting. That’s when the man with the baby and three women tried pulling the deputy off the suspect. The deputy was put in a choke hold and began passing out. When the deputy yelled: “ I give up, you are free to go” the unknown suspect released his hold.

The deputy recovered and was able to apprehend the original suspect but the other four people who were involved in the incident are still being sought.

The man who was arrested has been identified as 38-year-old Fernando Garcia-Davila of Rochester. He was wanted on two active arrest warrants from Olmsted County, one for a drug case and another for domestic assault.
