No Crashed Ice For You in 2019, Minnesota

It had drawn huge crowds to St. Paul, but it won't be making an appearance in Minnesota next year.

It, of course, is the spectacle known as the Red Bull Crashed Ice competition. It's been a huge draw in St. Paul since it first debuted in Minnesota back nearly 8 years ago, in February of 2011. But it's not coming to the Land of 10,000 (frozen) Lakes next year.

What's up with that?!? If you've never seen Crashed Ice, it's pretty cool. Literally. Here in Minnesota, extreme skaters set out on a huge, ice-covered 1,600-foot downhill course that started on the steps of the St. Paul Cathedral and eventually dropped nearly 12-stories.

But, instead of Minnesota, Red Bull Crashed Ice organizers said Wednesday that the only U.S. Crashed Ice tour stop would be in... Boston, not Minnesota.

Come on, man... really?!? Boston?!? Sure, they have the Bruins and all, but Minnesota IS the State of Hockey, right? (Not that this is strictly a hockey event, but it does involve ice and skates, so that's pretty close.) And, hey, Minnesota is also the Bold North, after all-- making it perfect for Crashed Ice.

And, Crashed Ice was a big deal in St. Paul. This CBS Minnesota story noted that crowds of over 100,000 took in Crashed Ice in each of its 8 years here. So why skip Minnesota? Especially after it had been so popular?!?

There was one glimmer of hope, though-- the story also said that organizers haven't ruled out having Crashed Ice return to Minnesota sometime in the future. (Probably after it crashes and burns in Boston, that is...)
