The definition of "recovery" is returning to a "normal" state of mind. But what's normal anyway? More importantly, what's your normal? How do you get back to it? One new Rochester organization is aiming to help those in recovery answer that.

If you know Tori Utley, you know that she's been open about addiction struggles some face. She and her Dad have teamed up to create a safe space in Rochester for those seeking addiction recovery.

It's called Doc's Recovery House, and thankfully Rochester just gave it the green light to help others.

Tori explained on Facebook, "Located in Oxbow Park, this serene space will be our flagship location and the site of our day programs offered to men and women waiting to get into residential treatment. The window of willingness and opportunity can be brief for many, and unfortunately, many are placed on a waiting list and don’t end up making it to treatment at all — or sit in jail until their bed is available. In this massive gap, people die, families are torn apart, or the motivation dissolves, allowing addiction to progress and worsen in the valued lives of friends, family, and community members." It's been her dream to create this haven for a while, and she's been working hard to realize it for the past three years. Now she's doing it!

The National Survey on Drug Use and Health found that "21.5 million American adults (aged 12 and older) battled a substance use disorder in 2014." Sadly, that number has increased nationally since. This number reflects that there just aren't enough hospitals or medical treatment centers to take on everyone interested in recovery. Any new recovery option is welcomed.

Tori doesn't want those interested in recovery to wait for care. She explained of Doc's Recovery House, "We will partner with treatment centers, long-term sober living homes, and area nonprofits to make this a reality. Put simply, our only goal is to get people where they need to go, and to fill the gaps people have been falling through for far too long."

To find out more stayed tuned to Doc's Facebook for regular updates on an official opening! They're just getting started so exciting things are coming! To me, this is much needed in Rochester. Mental health issues and substance abuse exist here like anywhere else in the US. The more recovery or treatment options, the better!

Let's celebrating serving those in need!
