Sure, dog may be man's best friend but if your best friends are of the feline persuasion, there's a new cafe that's set to cater to your liking, and it's opening Friday right here in the Bold North.

That's right, it's a cat cafe. And it's opening this weekend in the Twin Cities. The Cafe Meow announced on their Facebook page that they're opening Friday morning at 9 a.m.

And if you're like me, you might be wondering just what a 'cat cafe' is. Can you take you cats there? Does it serve items only a cat would like? Well... no, and no. In fact, a cat cafe actually caters more to cat-lovers than it does to actual cats.

According to this CBS-Minnesota story, the concept of a 'cat cafe' originated in Japan and have become popular here in the U.S., mainly on the east and west coasts.

But they're not actually for cats. "The idea is that guests could pop in for a coffee and then enjoy it in the company of friendly cats, many of which will be up for adoption through local shelters," the story said.

And the Cafe Meow-- the first cat cafe in Minnesota-- will be doing much of the same thing. "We will have plenty of rescue cats for you to hang out with," Cafe Meow's owners said in the story. "Whether you are looking to adopt or not, we are your one-stop shop for getting cat-finated," the story noted.

Being that we have three cats at home, I think it's a cool idea! I can't wait to check it out. Cafe Meow is located in uptown Minneapolis, at 2323 Hennepin Avenue, near Red’s Savoy Pizza. Hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays, and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays.
