Blue Earth, MN (KROC AM News) - The Minnesota state trooper who was assaulted during a traffic stop last week is lucky he wasn’t killed.

Information included in the criminal complaint in the case indicates the trooper wasn’t just assaulted - he was also dragged by the vehicle.

Trooper Doug Rauenhorst made the stop on I-90 near Blue Earth. The complaint says as Rauenhorst was partially inside the vehicle, the driver accelerated and began dragging the trooper. When Rauenhorst tried putting the shifter into neutral, the driver and passenger began punching him. Rauenhorst then fell from the moving vehicle and it sped off. It was later found abandoned in Albert Lea and officers eventually located the two suspects in a bar.

Arrested were 28-year-old Anthony Hector Enriquez and 29-year-old Montrell Antonio Smith, both from Milwaukee. Smith was identified as the driver.

Officers also found several bricks of marijuana that had been thrown from their car before they ditched the vehicle. The bricks had a total weight of 16 pounds.

The two men were arraigned Monday and their conditional bail was set at $100,000. They were ordered back to court Dec 31 for another hearing.

The Minnesota BCA says Rauenhorst was treated for his injuries and released from the hospital Friday morning.
