If you've ever been there before, then this shouldn't surprise you at all.

If their bright green exterior doesn't attract you inside, then all those delicious smells definitely will.

City Market, located at 212 1st Avenue, and next door to Hefe Rojo/Newts, is one of my favorite places to eat in Rochester, and now it seems they're getting some recognition from outside our city limits.

The website Best Things Minnesota just named City Market one of their 10 Best Delis in Minnesota!

Here's what they had to say about it:

"City Market is the go-to for hearty sandwiches and fresh salads in Downtown Rochester. For seven consecutive years, it's been named the city’s best deli. City Market has also won a “Best Sandwiches in Rochester” survey many times. Call us purists, but we can’t stop going back for the pastrami and Swiss on rye."

Hard to argue with that assessment.

There really aren't a lot of places around here that feature those monster "New York-style" sandwiches, that are stuffed to the brim with freshly sliced meat, gourmet cheeses, and crisp veggies. But City Market certainly satisfies your craving for that every time you stop in.

My personal favorite it their No. 18 with roast beef and smoked Gouda cheese. I also like to toss on some bacon and have them toast it... seriously, this one is a must-try!
