They don't call it Music City for nothing. There is probably more genre'-bending going on in Nashville on a daily basis than you can shake a stick at. (now that sounds country, right?)

It just so happens I was in Nashville on a short vacation this past Wednesday through Friday primarily to catch the Eric Church all-acoustic grand opening of the brand-spankin NEW, Live Nation-run concert venue, the Ascend Amphitheater. Church was slated as thee headliner on both Thurs & Fri. evenings. On Friday nite Church invited Lzzy Hale to join him on stage for a song in which they've had collaboration on in the past, 'That's Damn Rock & Roll',from the Eric Church Grammy nominated, 'The Outsiders'. They have performed the song together at an awards show & popular Nashville music festival.

Church is no foreigner to the hard rock/metal scene as a self-proclaimed fan of the genre' himself, and one of the only so-called 'country acts' that has opened for Metallica several years ago at their Orion Festival in New Jersey.

It just so happens that Lzzy Hale & Eric Church keep some of the same company in #TwangTown , namely Jay Joyce, who has produced albums for both artists, not to mentioned utilizing the same Jay Joyce owned recording studio, which by the way is a refurbished place of worship. The latest Halestorm effort, 'Into the Wild Life', along with the aforementioned 'Outsiders' album for Church were recorded within the same digs.

Some Halestorm so-called 'purists' are not pleased with with the latest Halestorm single, 'Amen', stating it sounds too much like a country song. I do NOT concur. I think 'Amen' was sung & recorded in a very soulful manner, soulfulness that was drawn out of her in very unique surroundings and thru supportive coaxing by Jay Joyce. Personally, I applaud some genre'-bending, especially when the chemistry (as in this case) seems to work so well. Recently another country music performer (Zac Brown Band) and former Soundgarden frontman, Chris Cornell combined their efforts on 'Heavy Is The Head', another bad ass song!

I'm looking forward to seeing Halestorm LIVE again on Sept 15th at the Myth up the road in Maplewood (N. St Paul). Last time I checked tickets were still available. I've also heard thru the grapevine that there will be no opening act for this show, and Halestorm is planning on delivering a longer than normal set. Maybe I'll see YOU there! -'Train Wreck' ~ Z-Rock \m/\m/
