Who else is stoked to get out on the lake on a warm, summer day to catch a gigantic, awe-inspiring fish? I’ve been ready since January. If you’re a competitive fisher who likes to show off your big catches, I have some good news for you. The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources just added another fish to its catch-and-release record list, meaning you have an extra opportunity to be a part of HISTORY this summer.

Currently, the catch-and-release record fish program includes the lake sturgeon, muskie, and flathead catfish. But the MN DNR just announced that they’ve now added the popular Northern pike to the list. It’s all about helping make Minnesota an even more sought-after place for fishing.

So how does it work? Anglers can submit photos and documentation of the whopper they caught before setting it free. One photo should include the fish next to a measuring stick, tape, or ruler, with the second photo being a picture of the angler holding their big catch. I'm guessing we'll be seeing a bunch of those on our Facebook News Feed this summer.

Just don’t forget your fishing license! If you’re itching to participate this summer, check out the DNR website for the full guidelines.
