Memorial Day Weekend, the traditional start to the grilling season and white pants. I don't have any white pants, so let's talk grilling...specifically, where's the best place to buy meat in and around Rochester? I did a poll on Facebook, and while the choices were only Hy-Vee or Wal-Mart, so many people responded with something different, I knew we cared deeply about our supplier!

Before we get to the list, my favorite comment might have been this one.

Andrea really has it dialed in!

    HY-VEE

No specific Hy-Vee was selected at the best, but if you're looking for a chicken that's been loved on with an amazing bbq rub, Hy-Vee Crossroads has that. I like the legs, thighs, and wings the most, but the rub is really good.

    FAREWAY

For only having two locations, spread far apart (one in Rochester on 41st Street and in Stewartville, I'm impressed with Fareway coming in 2nd!

    YE OLDE BUTCHER SHOP

I've had their chicken, pork chops, sausage, beef, and lamb and it is all top notch. I maybe talk too much about their meatloaf, but holy mother of pearl is it good!

    SILVER LAKE FOODS

Silver Lake Foods is a nice little independent grocery store in the Silver Lake Shopping Center on North Broadway. They have marinated chickens I've had many times. Always good. I've never had their beef, but people on Facebook raved about it.

    Wal-Mart

Tho a lot of people grumbled about how they'd never shop Wal Mart fo meat, they still ended up in 5th place, not too shabby when you consider all the options people have.
