Later this year, a sequel to the 2001 cult comedy Super Troopers is expected to be released. Today, it was learned that Eagles of Death Metal have been roped in to provide the music for Super Troopers 2.

Director Jay Chandrasekhar revealed the news when he tweeted out a picture of himself with the band in the studio. Chandrasekhar, a member of the Broken Lizard sketch comedy group that wrote and starred in both the original film and the upcoming sequel, has an extensive resume in television, having directed episodes of Community, Arrested Development, Psych and Chuck.

The original movie saw the five members of Broken Lizard as state troopers in Spurbury, Vt., a fictional town near the U.S.-Canada border, who spend the bulk of their time playing pranks on the citizens and feuding with the local police department. Although not a critical success, it grossed $23.1 million with a $1.2 million budget.

Two years ago, Broken Lizard launched an Indiegogo campaign, hoping to raise $2 million to fund Super Troopers 2. That was achieved in the first day and eventually they brought in nearly $4.6 million. Shortly after production began, they revealed that Rob Lowe had joined the cast as “Guy Le Franc, a former hockey player and the current mayor of a Quebec Canadian border town.”

Last month, Eagles of Death Metal ended a five-week tour of North America with Mastodon. Aug. 4 will see the release of a DVD/CD combo, I Love You All the Time – Live at the Olympia in Paris, a document of their return to Paris following the November 2015 terrorist attack at the Bataclan. A documentary about their ordeal, Eagles of Death Metal: Nos Amis (Our Friends), aired on HBO back in February.
