They say that besides death and taxes, the only constant in life is change. Well, Rochester sure is living up to that these days. Check out just how much different this downtown street corner looks today, compared with September of last year!

The corner I'm talking about us at the junction of 4th Street and 2nd Avenue Southwest. It's the same corner where the Quick Country 96.5 studios are located, high atop the Townsquare Media Communications Complex.

So, naturally, that gives me a pretty good view of how this corner has changed in the last year. Well, actually, it's been even less than that. The top image is from Google Street View, and its time and date stamp notes that it was taken in September of 2017.

The bottom picture is one I took earlier this week, here in late April of 2018. So, if I've done my math correctly, that's only 7 months (maybe 8, depending on when in September it was taken), and yet there are some BIG changes afoot.

Things look a wee bit different, don't they?  What used to be a tree-lined Mayo Clinic employee parking lot is now home to the construction site of what will eventually be on of the Discovery Square buildings, part of the DMC initiative. It's not slated to be completed, though, until sometime in May of 2019.

Meanwhile, the landscape at this corner is set to change yet again in the near future, as the city of Rochester reconstructs 4th Street from 1st Street all the way west to 6th Street, as they replace aging sewer and water pipes, and add medians, trees, and bike lanes.

That project will start soon and run all summer, with a completion date set for the end of October this fall. Which will no doubt make this corner look even MORE different just 5 months from now!
