ST. CLOUD (WJON/Townsquare Media) — Two teenagers face murder charges after a fire erupted in a St. Cloud home last fall and killed a woman.

According to the criminal complaint, 18-year-old Dustin Zablocki of St. Cloud and 19-year-old Justin Pick of Sartell were using a hot plate and butane torch to extract a highly concentrated oil from marijuana called “dab”.

The two were in the basement of a home in the 1900 block of First Street North in St. Cloud November 22nd, 2014 when the fire broke out.

Zablocki lived at the home with his mother and grandmother. Records show the teens did not know the grandmother, 85-year-old Sally Douglas, was home at the time of the incident. They left the home after the fire got out of control and did not call 911.

Douglas was taken to the Hennepin County Medical Center in critical condition and later died from smoke inhalation.

Records show Pick told investigators they were making the oil for the first time and knew of warnings that it can cause dangerous fires.

Firefighters found Douglas unresponsive and lying face down by the front door. According to the complaint, upon seeing his grandmother being taken from the home on a stretcher and covered with a sheet, Zablocki fell to his knees and started crying saying that he just killed his grandmother.

Investigators found numerous items associated with making “dabs” including the torch, hot plate, hundreds of grams of marijuana, drug paraphernalia and a digital scale.1

The teens have been booked into the Stearns County Jail on third degree murder charges and are awaiting court dates.
