The two-day Rochester Polar Plunge festivities will kick-off with a new event called the 'Cool School Plunge' on Friday, February 10! For those not familiar, the Cool School Plunge is an event in which high school students take on the Polar Plunge with fellow classmates from their school to also raise money and awareness for Special Olympics.

To make matters more interesting, teachers and parents can also participate! In addition to the fun, teams who take the Cool School Plunge are eligible to take part in the Give Back, Get Unified Fundraiser to benefit their school.

To be eligible for participation, each participant must raise a minimum of $75. Fun activities will follow such as games, lunch, Special Olympics athlete speakers, a costume contest and more! The Cool School Plunge will run from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m to which I'll be there also to emcee and cheer on the students who participate!

Overall last year, more than 935 brave and crazy souls took the Plunge in Rochester and raised approximately $245,000 in support of Special Olympics Minnesota. Outstanding!

Olmsted County Sheriff Kevin Torgerson explained on Rochester’s Good Morning last week on our sister station KROC AM:
