Austin, MN (KROC-AM News) - An Austin man was sentenced today for murdering another Austin man almost a year and a half ago. 39-year-old Michael McIntosh was given a 15 year prison sentence for beating and strangling 39-year-old David Madison, whose body was found in the Cedar River near Austin on November 1, 2015.

McIntosh earlier pleaded guilty to a third degree murder charge in the case. He also admitted to a felony drug charge stemming from an incident a couple months earlier and was given a 12 month prison term to be served concurrently with the 15 year sentence.

McIntosh was quickly identified as a suspect in the murder case. Madison had told a number of people that McIntosh wanted to harm him because he had been involved in a sexual relationship with McIntosh's girlfriend while he was serving a jail sentence that he had completed just three days before Madison was killed.
