Rochester, MN (KROC AM News) - Rochester police have arrested a man as a suspect in a brutal downtown mugging that happened early Thursday along Historic Third Street.

Police say a 40-year-old man was assaulted by 3 or 4 men around 2:30 a.m. The victim was incoherent when officers arrived. He had significant facial injuries and was shirtless and missing a shoe.The victim was taken to St. Marys Hospital for treatment of his injuries.

Police Captain John Sherwin says he is from Kuwait but has been living in Rochester.

Witnesses gave police a description of the car the assailants fled in and it was spotted a few blocks away with several people inside. Officers arrested one of the them after they found he had the victim’s wallet. A set of brass knuckles was also found in the car.

Being held on assault charges is 23-year-old Malawi Loukawila.
