Last weekend, like many Minnesotans, I hit the road so I could spend some time with family at a lake. For the first hour and a half, my journey from Rochester to Detroit Lakes was pretty routine. But when I was driving on 94-W through Maple Grove with three hours still left to go, I suddenly heard a strange noise behind me to my left.

It sounded like I was an extra on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road. But it didn't take me too long to figure out what had happened:

RIP to my back left tire. I quickly had to swerve out from the middle lane to the shoulder, and thankfully was able to get there without causing a huge pileup. A couple hours (and hundreds of dollars) later, I was finally able to make my way to the lake. But YIKES. That was pretty freaky, and I’m lucky that nothing serious happened.

That’s why I wanted to give you a heads-up if you’re going to be on the road this weekend. I highly recommend taking a couple minutes to look over your tires before taking off. And man, don't take those roads for granted. You never know what sharp objects are just lying in wait. Also, you may want to pack an extra pair of pants. Just in case.
