2018 Rochester Area Road Construction Preview
Rochester, MN (KROC-AM News) - The Minnesota Department of Transportation, along with the Rochester and Olmsted County Public Works Departments, held a news conference today at the Government Center in Rochester to officially kick off the 2018 road construction season. The event was used to list the numerous road and the transportation infrastructure projects that are planned in the Rochester area this fall.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation list includes a couple major re-paving projects. Highway 52 from Highway 63 to the I-90 interchange is scheduled to be repaved beginning in July and Highway 63 from just north of Rochester to near Lake City is scheduled to be repaved in 2 phases. The first is expected to get underway next month and involves the section of the highway from the 75th Street roundabout to Zumbro Falls and will require some significant detours while the work is taking place. The second phase from Zumbro Falls to Oak Center will get underway in August.
The City of Rochester and Olmsted County have long lists of projects scheduled this season. Among the more prominent Rochester projects are the continued reconstruction of 18th Avenue Northwest and a complete reconstruction of 4th Street Southwest between 1st and 6th Avenues beginning next month. Street reconstruction projects are also scheduled to take place on sections of 6th and 7th avenues on the west side of downtown Rochester.
Statewide, the Minnesota Department of Transportation has over 250 projects scheduled with a price tag of about $1.1 billion. $124 million is being directed at projects in southeastern Minnesota including the ongoing bridge projects in Winona and Red Wing along with more work on the I-35 corridor.
